What’s the difference between a portrait and a headshot?

The main difference between a headshot and a portrait is that a headshot is a shot of a person’s face, whereas a portrait shot, is more about capturing the individual (or family’s) personality, through angles, poses and lighting.

A rule of thumb would be to remember a headshot, as more to do with business (passports, auditions), and portraits can be more personal and creative.

How many headshots do you need?

Depending on who you are, whether an actor, or musician, the number can vary. We’d advise having at the very least two, and ideally in different outfits to give you a bit of variety. In general you’d probably want to have a good few under your belt, for good measure.
